Road closures and transit detours announced for Santa Claus Parade

(Fort McMurray, AB – November 30, 2017) – Santa is almost ready to ring in the holiday season at the annual Santa Claus Parade!

To make way for his sleigh and reindeer for the 6:30 p.m. parade, motorists are reminded of the following road closures on Dec. 2:

  • Clearwater Dr. (Riedel St. to King St.) 12 – 8 p.m.
  • Riedel St. 5:45 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Franklin Ave. (Riedel St. to Morrison St.) 6:15 –  8 p.m.
  • Morrison St. (Franklin Ave. to Morimoto Dr.) 6:30 – 9 p.m.

Note: Road closure times are approximate. As the parade passes, roads will reopen. For the safety of our volunteers and parade participants, barricades will be set up to prevent vehicles accessing the closed roads.

To accommodate these road closures and float staging for the parade, the following transit changes will be in effect from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2:

  • Routes 1, 2, 10, 11, 15, 16, 91 and 92 will experience small detours at Main Station

Don’t forget, the Santa Claus Parade Community Committee is hosting additional family-friendly activities on Dec. 2, including Breakfast with Santa from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Peter Pond Mall and the Elf Workshop from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Wood Buffalo Regional Library.
