Use caution and anticipate traffic delays during Fort McMurray Marathon

(Fort McMurray, AB – September 12, 2018) – Residents are reminded to use caution and anticipate traffic delays while driving in Thickwood or headed to MacDonald Island Park during the Fort McMurray Marathon on Sunday, September 16. 

The following streets will remain operational, but be affected from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only minor delays are expected.  

MacDonald Drive
Fairway Drive 
Thickwood Boulevard 
Silin Forrest Road 
Real Martin Drive

RCMP and Bylaw officers will be present along the route to ensure runners and motorists remain safe. Marked security will be stationed at barricades set up at intersections along the route to allow participants to pass. 

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead if they are driving in Thickwood or headed to MacDonald Island Park. A marathon route map can be found here: fortmcmurraymarathon.ca

No transit detours or delays are expected.  

Local businesses, residents along the route and the general public are encouraged to watch and cheer-on participants. The Fort McMurray Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).
