Work to replace and repair playground infrastructure damaged in the wildfire continues

(Fort McMurray, AB – July 11, 2017) – Work is continuing to replace and repair the playgrounds damaged in the May 2016 Horse River Wildfire. All work is expected to be complete before the end of October, 2017.

Playgrounds will be replaced and repaired in Abasand, Beacon Hill, Waterways, Wood Buffalo, Stone Creek and Eagle Ridge. Repairs are complete at the École Boréal playground in Abasand and the Belgian Green playground in Prairie Creek.

The replacements and repairs will provide significant upgrades to some of the play structures, in keeping with current best practices and standards. All of the playgrounds will be accessible for all play abilities.

Residents are reminded that all affected playgrounds are closed until repairs and replacements are complete. Fencing will be installed and signage put in place and all residents are encouraged to stay out of these areas for their own safety.
