The purpose of MACOY is to empower youth to become actively engaged citizens who have a voice in decisions that affect them. MACOY members are champions of the community who work to improve the quality of life of all citizens.

What does MACOY offer?

  • Develops future leaders
  • A voice for youth in the community
  • Exposure to a variety of learning experiences
  • Instills a focus on community development
  • Creates project management opportunities
  • Mentorship for professional and personal growth
  • Builds MACOY to become the next generation of mentors
  • Connects the Mayor to youth in the region

MACOY Expansion

Due to the popularity of the program and to allow for even more youth to have a chance to enjoy what it has to offer, starting in 2018/2019 MACOY will operate with a General Assembly and Committee structure. The General Assembly will consist of past MACOY youth that will work to mentor and work alongside the committees. Five committee groups consisting of new and past MACOY youth will focus their project work on these subject areas: Arts & Culture, Engagement & Outreach, Health & Wellness, Social Equity and Urban Planning. The structure outlined below will allow for up to 60 youth to be a part of MACOY.

Alumni & Past MACOY Groups

MACOY alumni are members that have gone through the ranks as MACOY members and have moved past our age/grades of eligibility. They remain committed to mentoring current members and assisting with projects and programs throughout the community. MACOY alumni are an amazing group of civic-minded youth. They have undertaken projects in the community that will make a significant impact in the lives of youth in Wood Buffalo! Here are some of the past projects MACOY members have worked on:

"MACOY was a huge part of my youth development and really was a launching pad to a future career in politics. The Borealis Skate park was one of the big projects we worked on. Seeing the program grow and the great work the students are doing is amazing. I am so grateful for the opportunity." — Tyran Ault
