If I am interested in several positions with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, do I have to submit a resume for each competition?

Every competition is considered separately. If you are applying for several positions, a separate resume is required for each position.

How are applicants assessed?

All applicants are assessed relative to the qualifications listed in the job description/posting. Applicants who meet the education and experience requirements may be eligible for further consideration. Meeting the minimum qualifications of the posting does not automatically mean you will be "short listed" or selected for an interview for the available position as all applicants are assessed on a competitive basis.

How long does the selection process take?

Most competitions have been completed within six weeks.

Do you screen resumes by keywords?

No. This is a common misconception. Our recruitment team is responsible for reviewing applicants’ resumes and selecting the best for the hiring managers to review. The resumes aren’t selected based on keywords, there is an actual person verifying that they appear to meet the requirements of the position. We use the information provided by the applicant, including a number of pre-screening questions and their resume, to make that assessment.

Do you consider internal applicants first?

Yes. If it is a unionized position, consideration must be given to employees who are part of the Bargaining Unit prior to interviewing any external applicants.

How long does the selection process take?

The majority of competitions are completed within six weeks, however it may be a longer period of time before the vacancy can be filled.

What jobs are available for students with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo?

We hire students in a number of our Departments. Please check for these opportunities in February on our website.

Does the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo hire seasonal workers?

Yes we do. Seasonal or temporary employment can be full-time, part-time, or casual work, in order to meet our operational requirements. These positions are generally from three to six months in duration. We also hire seasonal students who work from the first week of May to the first week of September.

Do applicants have to go through skill testing or medical testing?

Yes, some positions will require confirmation of skills through testing of various sorts and/or a pre-employment medical examination.

Does The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo accept education and training courses completed outside of Canada?

Yes. If any formal education was completed outside Canada, please indicate if it has been evaluated for equivalency. If it has been evaluated for equivalency, please also indicate by whom it was assessed. Any foreign education must be formally assessed as equivalent to Canadian education prior to an appointment being made. Can an individual work in two or more jobs at the same time with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo?

No. Individuals can hold only one position at a time with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
