RMWB Wildfire Recovery Information

Alberta Health Services has confirmed that water quality for rural communities south of Fort McMurray has been restored to safe levels and as a result the boil water advisory has been lifted for the areas effective immediately.

The boil water advisory has been lifted for Anzac, the Anzac Truckfill, Fort McMurray No. 468 First Nation and Gregoire Lake Estates.

This follows earlier announcements that the boil water advisory had been lifted for Airport Lands, Dickinsfield, Grayling Terrace, Gregoire, the Lower Townsite area, Mackenzie Park, Parsons Creek North, Prairie Creek Residential, Saline Creek, Saline Plateau, Spruce Valley Estates, Saprae Creek Estates, Stone Creek, Thickwood, Timberlea and Wood Buffalo.

The boil water advisory remains in place for the following areas:

  • Abasand
  • Beacon Hill
  • Waterways

The Municipality strongly recommends that all residents and commercial properties using cisterns (water tanks) for drinking water drain, clean and disinfect their water tanks prior to use. Cleaning tanks following long periods of disuse should be common practice. While all cisterns are private property, the Municipality encourages healthy and responsible use of private systems that are supplied with Municipal drinking water.

The Municipality is here to assist with this process by offering advice on how to drain, clean and disinfect your cisterns. A pamphlet from Alberta Health Services (AHS) explaining how to clean and test tanks was distributed to homes and campgrounds and is also available online at ahs.ca/wildfire.

If you have any questions regarding your tank or your drinking water, you can contact the following:

  • Alberta Health Services: 811
  • Municipal Underground Services: 780-799-5823
  • Pulse Call Line (evenings, weekends, holidays): 780-743-7000

For the latest information on the status of the boil water advisory, please visit the AHS website at ahs.ca/wildfire or the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo at rmwb.ca/boil.
