Soil stockpiling

Soil stockpiling

A location has been secured in Abrams Land to stockpile soil from rebuild communities.

Holiday update - February 16 - 18, 2019:

The soil stockpile site will be closed from Feb. 16 - 18 for the Alberta Family Day weekend. The site will re-open on Tuesday, February 19 at 8 a.m.

Stockpiling the soil will significantly reduce the quantity of rebuild-related material entering the Regional Landfill as it can be repurposed in the future.

Soil from rebuild areas will not be accepted at the Regional Landfill and property owners and contractors are encouraged to use the stockpiling site.

The stockpile site is located at the rear southwest corner of Abrams Land and can be accessed on the west side of Thickwood Boulevard across from Dickins Drive.

The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Soil from outside of wildfire-damaged properties must be taken to the Regional Landfill where it will be subject to the disposal guidelines set out in the Utility Rates Bylaw No. 10/001.

Fees reinstated

Fees at the Regional Landfill associated with the disposal of Acceptable Contaminated Soil have been reinstated now that the soil stockpiling site at Abrams Land is fully functional.

All soil from rebuild areas should be taken to the stockpiling site in Abrams Land.

Refunds are expected to take between 30 and 60 days, depending on the volume of requests received by the Recovery Task Force.

Soil from outside wildfire-damaged areas

Property owners and contractors hauling soil from outside the wildfire-damaged areas will continue to be required to follow the disposal guidelines set out in the Utility Rates Bylaw No. 10/001.

All soil from outside of wildfire-damaged areas must be taken to the landfill as it will not be accepted at the soil stockpiling site.

The 2018-2019 WMZone season is finished.  Stay tuned for updates in the fall.
