Discover that Wood Buffalo is full of fun things to do for all ages! The following annual events are co-ordinated by the Municipality's Community Services Department in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Culture Days

Culture Days is a nationally celebrated annual event that occurs on the last weekend of September. Each year dedicated community members, artisans, non-profits and other cultural industries work together to organize a weekend filled with free family-friendly arts, heritage, music, literary and multi-cultural events.

Canada Day Parade

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo hosts the Canada Day Parade every July 1. This annual event kicks off the Canada Day festivities in our community. Join us to celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday in 2017!

Fort McMurray Urban Market

The Fort McMurray Urban Market is an outdoor market that is host to a variety of vendors selling fresh fruits and veggies, locally prepared food, hand-made crafts and much more. It brings a variety of local and regional vendors to the downtown of Fort McMurray with markets running on a bi-weekly schedule from June to October. Over 80% of these vendors make, bake or grow their products in Alberta.

Beyond the vendors, the market includes community groups, musicians, artists and special guests which create a fun and family friendly atmosphere. This is a must see local event!

igNIGHT

igNIGHT is a temporary public art exhibition that aims to encourage public art initiatives in ways that engage the interest and imagination of the general public. This exhibition aspires to collaborate with the local arts community to produce an annual event unique to Wood Buffalo using illuminated public art pieces.

Santa Claus Parade

The annual Santa Claus Parade lights up the night in Fort McMurray with over 50 floats and community groups decked out in holiday finery. Millions of lights bring the downtown alive with the Lights of Christmas and thousands come out to welcome Santa to town.

WinterPLAY

WinterPLAY is a celebration of winter through arts, culture, recreation and sport. A popular annual event, it includes the Shootout on the Snye four-on-four pond hockey tournament as well as live entertainment. There is outdoor fun at Snye Park throughout the festival weekend along with a variety of partner activities throughout the community. The weekend closes out with a fantastic fireworks show!
