2017 Yard Waste Dropoff Ending Oct. 13

The last week to put out yard waste is Oct. 9 - 13. The public drop off area at the landfill will continue to receive yard waste at no charge year-round.

Christmas Tree Drop Off

Recycling your Christmas tree is easy. A number of sites will be set up throughout Fort McMurray to drop off your tree once the holidays are over. Please ensure that you remove the stand and all decorations before bringing it to any of the marked drop off sites, which will be open from Christmas day until Jan. 15 in the parking lots at the following locations:

  • Frank LaCroix Arena (Beacon Hill)
  • Haxton Centre/Borealis Park (Downtown)
  • Sobey’s (Thickwood)
  • Syncrude Athletic Park (Timberlea)
  • Michelle’s Your Independent Grocer (Timberlea

The public drop off area at the landfill is able to receive yard waste at no charge year-round, seven days a week from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Curbside collection of yard waste will begin the week of June 5, 2017. You can put the following in your brown paper yard waste bag:

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Flowers
  • Weeds
  • Culled plants
  • Small twigs less than 30 centimetres (12 inches) long

Do not put kitchen food scraps, pet waste or non-organic garden waste such as broken plant pots in the bag.

Each household is limited to four bags of yard waste per week, and 16 kilograms (35 pounds). If extra bags are put out, the Municipality will issue a notification advising of the issue, and the extra bags will not be picked up.
