Public Health Act

The registered owner of a house premises shall ensure that:

  • roofs, foundations, walls, windows, and doors must be waterproof, windproof and weatherproof
  • walls, ceilings, windows, and floors are in good repair with no major cracks
  • ceiling, walls, doors, floors, and floor coverings are in good repair and easy to clean
  • cooking and food storage equipment (if supplied by the owner) is kept repaired and replaced when necessary
  • common areas must be kept clean and sanitary
  • hot water is maintained at 46 degrees Celsius; cold water available
  • no leaks or plumbing defects
  • residence is free of nuisances & pests (ie: bed bugs)
  • proper ventilation in the bathroom
  • the heating system must be able to maintain at least 22 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit) in all rooms
