Installing Underground Fuel Storage Tanks


Underground Tank Permit Application

All underground fuel storage tanks shall comply with the National Fire Code, Alberta Edition.

Permit Requirements

Underground fuel storage tanks require a permit from the Fire Prevention Branch prior to installation. All applicable documents requested in the permit must be submitted with the permit application.

*Contact the Planning and Development Department to determine if a Development Permit is also required.


Underground fuel storage tanks shall be registered by the Petroleum Tank Management Association of Alberta (PTMAA).


As per the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo - User Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw, the cost is $220 for the first tank and $110 for each additional tank.
