Penhorwood Demolition Updates

Current weather conditions are favourable for the demolition and all processes are on schedule. Based on progress made, the contractor has modified the schedule to reflect a two-day demolition process for each building rather than four days, shortening the overall timelines originally anticipated for the demolition.

The original timeline outlined a finish date of Feb. 18, but with the shorter demolition times, the project is now scheduled to be complete by Feb. 1.

Envirocon, the contractor for the project, began site setup and mobilization early in the week and completed on Jan. 14. In addition, hazardous materials abatement was completed on Jan. 14. Demolition of Buildings A and G began on Jan. 15 as scheduled.

Before the demolition began on Jan. 15, Regional Emergency Services did a safety check to ensure Buildings A and G were safe to be demolished and that there were no hazards that could arise during the process. Regional Emergency Services will do additional safety checks before demolition begins on each of the remaining buildings.

Demolition is scheduled to begin on Building D starting on Jan. 19, followed by Building B on Jan. 21, and Building C on Jan. 23.

Crews are scheduled to begin removing debris from Buildings G and A, on Jan. 17, from Building D on Jan. 21, and Building B on Jan. 23.

Timelines are subject to weather conditions.
