The Public Works and Transit Services department is responsible for managing and maintaining public spaces throughout the region, providing safe and reliable transit for residents, and operating the airport, landfill and wastewater and water treatment operations in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan. The department provides these services through four branches:

Fleet Services

The Fleet Services Branch provides procurement and maintenance services for vehicles, equipment used by municipal departments, with the exception of Regional Emergency Services. It also provides heavy equipment training to staff.

Fleet Services ensures that the vehicular, equipment and related training needs of the Municipality are provided in a cost effective manner while meeting the fleet’s lifecycle requirements.

Traffic and Rural Operations

The Traffic and Rural Operations branch maintains and operates the traffic control devices within the Region. This branch is also responsible for park and road maintenance in our rural hamlets of Conklin, Janvier, Anzac and Fort Chipewyan, including the airports in Fort Chipewyan and Janvier.

In Fort Chipewyan, Traffic and Rural Operations also support Environmental Services with water and wastewater management systems and landfill operations.

Parks and Roads Services

Roads is responsible for the upkeep of the Municipality's roads and sidewalks through regular repairs and maintenance, street sweeping, and snow removal.

Parks is responsible for the lifecycle maintenance and care of the Municipality’s gardens, playgrounds, cemeteries, trails, sports fields, park development and construction, and dedicated public areas.

Transit Services

Transit Services strives to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit for all residents.

Transit service is reviewed on an ongoing basis. Periodic updates will be made to address the needs of the community and based on feedback from residents.
