Winter Maintenance Zones Email Alerts

All Winter Maintenance Zones (WMZ) will remain relaxed for the week of November 11 – 15.

This means that on-street WMZ parking restrictions are NOT in effect Nov. 11 – 15. Please watch for any other posted signage as other parking restrictions may apply.

You may see snowplows and municipal crews working on primary and secondary routes. These routes are regularly maintained as they include the municipal roads with high-traffic volume such as Confederation Way or the main access into neighbourhoods. A map of all the routes and their classification can be viewed here.

For everyone’s safety, please do not approach equipment on the roadway and exercise caution where maintenance is happening. As always, motorists are advised to drive for winter conditions, allow space for visibility and follow road equipment from a safe stopping distance.

Please remember to remove curb mats from the entrance of your driveway. These mats damage equipment, impede snow removal progress and aren't allowed under RMWB bylaws. Help us plow through winter and avoid a ticket by removing your curb mat.

Electronic variable signage has been placed at the entrance of each neighbourhood in Fort McMurray. These signs will inform you what subzones are active.

In an effort to increase transparency and keep residents informed on the progress of snow removal on residential streets in Fort McMurray, the municipality has launched a WMZ progress map. Once crews finish removing snow from a residential street, the map will be updated within 48 hours to highlight that snow removal has been completed on the street. Residents may access the WMZ progress map at rmwb.ca/snowplow

It’s easy for residents to find their zone and subzone by checking the signage along their residential street or by using the Find Your Zone tool at rmwb.ca/wmz

Stay tuned for regular updates. Watch for posted electronic signage at the entrance to Fort McMurray communities, check the municipal website or follow the RMWB on Facebook or Twitter.
