RMWB Wildfire Recovery Information

The Municipality is pleased to announce that a majority of the Birchwood Trails will reopen on Aug. 24, 2016.

“We know how important the Birchwood Trails are to our community and reopening the trail system in a timely, safe manner remains a priority,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “We are thrilled residents can continue to boast a healthy and active lifestyle on our boreal trails as we reopen for all to enjoy.”

Crews are currently performing regular maintenance to the trails, which had been postponed due to the wildfire and FireSmart hazard reduction activities. The Birchwood Trails will remain closed and barricaded until Aug. 24, as crews complete surface grading, washout repair and deadfall removal to ensure the trails are safe for use.

Residents are advised to wait until barricades have been removed before accessing the trails. Although most of the trails will reopen by Aug. 24, certain sections that were heavily damaged will remain closed until further notice. Please observe all posted signage as closed areas are not safe for use.

Construction for Phase 2 of the FireSmart program is scheduled to begin later in the fall, and sections of the Birchwood Trails will be temporarily closed while work is underway. Notification will be shared at that time to ensure public safety while continuing to provide access to unaffected areas.
