[27-04-2020 at 10:10 p.m.] Voluntary Evacuation Notice: Grayling Terrace

UPDATE: ATCO advises that gas will be shut off during the morning of April 28. 

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 27, 2020) – A Voluntary Evacuation Notice has been issued for Grayling Terrace. 

The Notice is not being issued because of flooding. For safety reasons, gas to Grayling Terrace is being shut off. Residents who choose not to evacuate will not have access to heat or hot water in their homes while the Notice is in effect. 

Grayling Terrace evacuees that require accommodation or immediate support are directed to report to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre at 515 MacKenzie Boulevard to register as evacuees. Evacuees that don’t need accommodations are not required to check-in at this time. 

Evacuees must follow all signs, designated evacuation routes and instructions from emergency officials. Continue practicing physical distancing while evacuating and if immediate assistance is needed call 9-1-1. 

There are Municipal Transit busses available to transport evacuees that need assistance. Please let an emergency official on-site know if you need transportation.  

Drive-thru Registration Centres have COVID-19 preventive measures in place and all procedures have been adjusted to align with current Public Health Orders and guidelines. 

Evacuees are advised to: 

  • Check-in at the drive-thru Registration Centre located at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre at 515 MacKenzie Boulevard
  • Continue practicing physical distancing while evacuating
  • Follow the instructions of emergency officials and first responders.
  • Secure your home by locking all doors and windows. Leave a note on your door to inform family members when you left and where you went.
  • Not attempt search and rescue operations on your own. Call 9-1-1 for assistance.
  • Notify emergency officials if you are aware of vulnerable residents who may need assistance evacuating
  • Not return to your home or business while the Evacuation Notice is in effect.
