All dog parks in Fort McMurray now open

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 28, 2020) – All off-leash dog parks in Fort McMurray have re-opened and are available for use.

The Sara Holden Dog Park in Waterways re-opened Thursday, May 28 after being impacted by the April Flood. The northside of the dog park, the side closer to Raphael Cree Boat Launch, remains closed as remediation efforts continue in this area. The other off-leash dog parks in the region opened May 16.

Community members using dog parks must follow public health guidelines, including:

  • Maintaining two metres of physical distance between others
  • Gathering in groups of 50 or less
  • Staying home if you feel sick
  • Only sharing common equipment and toys with dogs and members of the same household or cohort
  • Washing your hands frequently and after touching surfaces

Please try to limit touching of surfaces as they’re not sanitized.  It’s recommended to carry and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content.

Dog waste bags are temporarily unavailable at dog parks. Please bring your own waste bags and cleanup after your dog.

Community members are reminded that as public spaces begin to re-open, things may look different. COVID-19 preventative measures are in place and crews continue flood recovery efforts. Please be patient, exercise caution while using public spaces and respect the closures as we navigate through these unprecedented times together. Thank you for your cooperation in playing safe and staying safe.
