Burn abatement work now taking place throughout the Urban Service Area

 

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 23, 2019) – Starting today, crews from Regional Emergency Services (RES) will be conducting burn abatement work throughout the Urban Service Area.

As part of this work, highly trained RES staff will be conducting controlled burns in several areas. This work is done each spring to remove dead and dry surface fuels that accumulate over the winter months. Burn abatement is an important step in helping to reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.

Controlled burns will take place over the next few weeks and burning will only occur conditions are safe to do so. Fire and smoke may be visible during this process.
