Deadline extended for Council-appointed Committee volunteer opportunities

(Fort McMurray, AB – January 30, 2020) – The Municipality is currently accepting applications for volunteers to serve on Council-appointed Committees. Committees help advise Council on matters that affect the public, giving residents a chance to provide input to decision-makers in local government. The deadline for applications has been extended to February 7. 

There are currently opportunities available in the following sectors*:

  • Wood Buffalo Waterfront Advisory Committee - Business Community
  • Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee - Affordable Housing
  • Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee - Business Community
  • Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee – Education
  • Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee – Community Development

*Volunteers are not be expected to represent a sector or organization but are expected to have knowledge and experience with issues that impact the interests of the stated sector.

The Wood Buffalo Waterfront Advisory Committee makes recommendations to Council on matters pertaining to waterfront revitalization. The committee includes a range of stakeholders and non-voting Council representatives and builds on the recommendations of the successful Waterfront Steering Committee and information gathered during the current downtown revitalization process.

The Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee advises municipal administration and Council on local development initiatives, including development and construction issues, community-based issues, public engagement activities and region-wide economic priorities.

Residents can apply for openings in the above sectors identified in the online application process; they may also apply as public at large members to the Wood Buffalo Waterfront Advisory Committee and/or Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee by selecting ‘apply for committee’
