Evacuation Update: All flood-related mandatory evacuation orders lifted

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 3, 2020) – The mandatory evacuation for Garden Lane was lifted as of 6 p.m. on May 3, 2020. With this announcement, all mandatory evacuation orders related to river breakup flooding will have been lifted.

Draper residents should follow the following safety precautions:

  1. Most homes have not lost power. It’s possible that the electrical system or some of its parts were compromised. If this is the case, there are steps you must take before the home is energized.
  2. If your power meter was shut off, a Safety Codes Officer determined that your electrical system could have been damaged from the flood. To reconnect your system, call Pulse at 780-743-7000 to schedule an inspection of your electrical system or visit rmwb.ca/utilities.
  3. If you have standing water in your residence or other electrical concerns, please contact ATCO Electric at 1-800-668-5506 immediately.
  4. Propane tanks or fittings may have been damaged. Inspection and reconnection of propane can be arranged through your propane service provider.
  5. There is a high likelihood that septic tanks and fields are compromised. Inspection of septic systems and pumping of your septic tank should be arranged through your service provider.
  6. If your water supply is via a cistern or a well, it may be compromised. There are resources on the AHS website regarding actions for well or cistern water, and septic tanks.
