Fort Chipewyan winter road to close for season on Sunday, March 17

(Fort McMurray, AB – March 16, 2019) – Motorists are notified that the Fort Chipewyan winter road will be closing for the season on Sunday, March 17 at 5:00 p.m.

This means that vehicles will no longer be able to operate on the Fort Chipewyan winter road after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Gate access will be closed or barricaded and rig mats will be begin being removed at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18.

With warmer temperatures, the ice road is melting. Motorists are asked to use caution as roads are slick with water and there is water pooling in some areas. Please drive to conditions and stay to the right-hand side of the road to allow room for oncoming traffic. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Residents and industry are encouraged to make any trips on the Fort Chipewyan winter road as soon as practical, but please use extra caution.
