Municipal playgrounds now open – play safe!

(Fort McMurray, AB – June 1, 2020) – Effective immediately, Municipal playgrounds will begin to open and be available for public use. Please play safe and stay safe!

Community members using parks, playgrounds and other outdoor recreation spaces are reminded to exercise caution and use these amenities responsibly. Anyone using these spaces must follow public health guidelines, including:

  • Maintaining two metres of physical distance between others
  • Gathering in groups of 50 or less
  • Staying home if you feel sick
  • Only sharing common equipment with members of the same household or cohort
  • Washing your hands frequently

Playgrounds and other outdoor surfaces are not sanitized. It’s recommended to carry and use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.

While some playgrounds are currently open, crews are still removing caution tape and ensuring equipment is safe for use in others. Certain parks and playgrounds affected by the April Flood will remain closed as remediation work continues in these areas. All spray parks remain closed. If closed signs and barriers are in place, we kindly ask that you respect these closures and be patient as crews work to re-open these areas.
