RMWB Councillor Jane Stroud and CAO Annette Antoniak receive prestigious awards at the 2019 AUMA Convention

(Fort McMurray, AB – September 26, 2019) – Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Ward Four Councillor Jane Stroud and Chief Administrative Officer Annette Antoniak have been honoured with several awards at the 2019 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) Convention in Edmonton.

Councillor Stroud was the recipient of the AUMA Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding civic leadership by past and present municipal elected officials who have served more than three years. Ms. Antoniak accepted the AUMA Municipal Sustainability Above and Beyond Award for the development and implementation of the zero-based budgeting initiative, which she introduced to the RMWB in 2017.

Ms. Antoniak was also honoured with the Minister’s Award for Municipal Excellence in the Innovation category for the launch of the Ideas Committee. The award recognizes a leading practice embodying the first use of an idea in a municipal context in Alberta.  This committee addresses the need for understanding how change begins, and culture is created.

“By connecting the ‘boots on the ground’ to senior leadership, we’ve empowered employees to create positive change and encourage creative thinking while growing a culture of innovation,” said CAO Annette Antoniak. “To date, the Ideas Committee has brainstormed more than 200 ideas, with 60 of these at different stages of implementation.”

“On behalf of Council, I extend sincere congratulations to Councillor Stroud and Ms. Antoniak on receiving these prestigious awards,” said RMWB Mayor Don Scott. “Councillor Stroud’s strong advocacy and representation serves her constituents and our region well, and the introduction of zero-based budgeting and the Ideas Committee by Ms. Antoniak has contributed to the development of an innovative culture and ensuring fiscal sustainability for the RMWB. These awards recognize their tremendous work and efforts on behalf of the residents of the Municipality.”

The AUMA represents Alberta’s urban municipalities and advocates for solutions to municipal issues. Councillor Stroud is the second RMWB Councillor currently serving on Council to be honoured with an AUMA award. In 2018, RMWB Ward One Councillor Phil Meagher was also a recipient of the AUMA Award of Excellence.
