RMWB Statement on International Firefighters’ Day

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 4, 2020) – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Mayor Don Scott, and Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz, have provided the following statements on International Firefighters’ Day:

Mayor Don Scott:

“Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, I want to say thank you to all of the firefighters in our region who get up and go out every day to keep our community safe.

Your bravery and courage to serve our region does not go unnoticed. In the last few days, weeks and months we’ve faced challenges of epic proportions. Our firefighters have been on the front lines every day, going above and beyond to keep us safe. We are forever grateful for the work that you do, in good times, hard times and all the days in between. Thank you.”

Chief Jody Butz:

“Words can’t describe the gratitude we owe to our firefighters here in the region, not just today on International Firefighters’ Day, but every day. Whether you are a full-time Municipal firefighter, a volunteer firefighter with our rural departments, a firefighter with our industrial mutual aid partners or the local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry branch – thank you for keeping our region safe.

It is brave men and woman such as yourselves who risk their health, their safety and their lives in countless ways, to keep us safe and protected when danger strikes. It is with a grateful heart that I thank each and every one of you for the selfless service you provide to our region. Our community is made better because of the firefighter’s we have here to serve it. Thank you for all that you do.”
