RMWB extends support for interim accommodation for those impacted by flooding

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 6, 2020) – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has extended its support beyond May 10 for interim accommodation and food needs to residents affected by flooding.

The continuation of lodging support is extended for residents in the following circumstances:

  • Residents whose homes do not have utilities restored
  • Residents whose homes are not safe to occupy
  • Residents who live in multi-family dwellings such as apartments or condominiums who do not have access to their property

An accommodation and interim-housing plan will be co-designed by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Canadian Red Cross, which will include a coordinated and systematic approach to supporting the return of residents to their homes.

Evacuees should not check out of their interim accommodations if they do not have somewhere to stay. Once checked out, evacuees will not be able to check back in.

If you have urgent or unmet flood-related housing needs, please contact the Canadian Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582.
