Regional Emergency Services is set to begin seasonal burn abatement work on April 27

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 23, 2020) – Starting April 27, Crews from Regional Emergency Services (RES) will be conducting burn abatement work throughout the Urban Service Area – Fort McMurray.

As part of this work, highly trained RES staff will be conducting controlled burns in several areas throughout the Urban Service Area. This work is conducted each spring to remove dead and dry surface fuels that accumulate over the winter months. Burn abatement is an important step in helping to reduce the risk of wildfire in the region.

Controlled burns will take place over the next few weeks and burning will only occur when conditions are safe to do so. Fire and smoke may be visible during this process.
