River Breakup declared: April 22, 2019

(Fort McMurray, AB – April 22, 2019) - River breakup has been declared. Which mean there is no longer significant flood risk around the Lower Townsite and Waterways.

The remaining ice in the Athabasca River is now downstream (north) of the entrance to the Clearwater River.

Residents are advised to avoid river banks and shorelines as they remain dangerous, and please do not stop on the Athabasca bridge to watch the river.
