(Fort McMurray, AB – December 4, 2019) – Santa is coming to Wood Buffalo on Dec. 7 for the annual Santa Claus Parade! To make room for Santa and his helpers, there will be road closures and transit detours in place.

The Santa Claus Parade begins at 6 p.m. on Riedel Street, continuing onto Franklin Avenue, and coming to an end on Main Street. Spectators must remain on the sidewalk and behind temporary safety fencing, while keeping a safe distance away from the parade.

Residents are reminded to use caution, anticipate traffic delays, and to plan ahead for transit detours if travelling downtown Fort McMurray on the day of the parade.

Road closures and interruptions:

o Interruption in normal flow of traffic with one lane closed and other lane being used to accommodate two-way traffic.

Franklin Avenue (Riedel Street to Main Street) 5:45 - 7:30 p.m.

Road closure times are approximate. As the parade passes, roads will reopen. For the safety of volunteers and parade participants, barricades will be set up to prevent vehicles accessing the closed roads.

To accommodate these road closures, all downtown transit routes will have active detours in place from 5: 45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. The Main Street terminal will be closed when these detours are in place. Details of all the transit detours are available at rmwb.ca/transit-detours
