Time to water the flowers! Communities in Bloom judging begins today.

(Fort McMurray, AB – July 29, 2019) – Wood Buffalo is hoping to keep its five-bloom rating in the international edition of Communities in Bloom (CIB) this summer.
Between July 29 and 31, international CIB judges – Alex Pearl from Centerville, Ohio, and John Lohuis, Tillsonburg, Ontario – will be touring Wood Buffalo with scorecards in hand. Pearl and Lohuis will evaluate the combined involvement of residents, organizations, businesses and government on local beautification efforts.
For the past 11 years, Wood Buffalo has achieved a five-bloom rating in the CIB competition. Blooms are awarded based on six categories: tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and floral display.
Beautification efforts in our region will be up against six other municipalities in the International Challenge (Large Category) - City of Barrie, ON; City of Coquitlam, BC; Halesowen in Bloom, West Midlands UK; City of Lexington, KY, USA; Székesfehérvár, and Fejér, Hungary.
“We are excited to showcase the beauty of Wood Buffalo,” said Joanne Fisher, chair of the Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom committee. “You can help the community prepare for judging by trimming yards, weeding gardens, etc.”
Results will be announced in September at the CIB Symposium and Awards ceremony in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
