Use caution and anticipate traffic delays during Fort McMurray Marathon

(Fort McMurray, AB – September 13, 2019) – Residents are reminded to use caution and anticipate traffic delays while driving in Thickwood or headed to MacDonald Island Park during the Fort McMurray Marathon on Sunday, September 15. 

The following streets will remain operational, but be affected from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only minor delays are expected.  

MacDonald Drive
Fairway Drive 
Thickwood Boulevard 
Silin Forrest Road 
Real Martin Drive

RCMP and Bylaw officers will be present along the route to ensure runners and motorists remain safe. Volunteers will be stationed at barricades set up at intersections along the route to allow participants to pass. 

Motorists are encouraged to be cautious if they are driving in Thickwood or headed to MacDonald Island Park. For more information visit: fortmcmurraymarathon.ca

No transit detours or delays are expected.  

Local businesses, residents along the route and the general public are encouraged to watch and cheer on participants. The Fort McMurray Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).
