Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 & 2 active: Jan. 28 – Feb. 1

Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 and 2 are active for the week of Jan. 28 until Feb. 1.

This means that on-street parking restrictions will be in effect for subzones 1 and 2, so please plan ahead for parking to avoid being ticketed and towed. On-street parking is permitted in subzones 3 and 4, but please watch for any other posted signage. Further updates will be provided as we approach the week of Feb. 4 – 8.

The extreme cold weather has caused equipment malfunction, which has slowed down progress in subzones 1 and 2. Crews will continue to battle the frigid temperatures and complete all planned Winter Maintenance Zone activity in subzones 1 and 2 before starting work in other subzones.

Back alley snow removal has begun in Eagle Ridge and Wood Buffalo and will continue every day, including weekends, until snow has been removed from all back alleys in the region. Please make the winter season a little easier for crews, by removing any possessions that may block or impede access to back alleys. Winter Maintenance Zones and subzones will remain the same.

Residents are reminded to keep a safe distance from heavy equipment and exercise caution while snow removal is occurring. Do not approach equipment on the roadway until you have gotten the operators attention by making eye contact.

Residents can find their zone and subzone on the no-parking signage along residential streets. In addition, residents can find this information using the “Find Your Zone” tool at rmwb.ca/wmz

Stay tuned for regular updates. Watch for posted electronic signage at the entrance to Fort McMurray communities, or follow the municipal website or social media.
