WinterPlay 2020 welcomes thousands to Snye Park to celebrate Winter

(Fort McMurray, AB – March 4, 2020) – Thousands of residents embraced the region’s northern spirit and beautiful weather at this weekend’s WinterPLAY Festival at Snye Point Park.

WinterPLAY 2020 was made possible with the support from community and corporate partners, talented performers, vendors, municipal public works staff, municipal coordinators and dedicated volunteers. All these efforts combined, contributed to a memorable festival for all.

Highlights of the weekend

  • 15 community partners provided services and activities at the Festival
  • 10 corporate partners supported the Festival with donations
  • 32 volunteers covering 59 shifts throughout the weekend
  • 20 teams registered in the Shootout on the Snye
  • 20 talent show participants
  • 73 players registered to participate in the Skills Competition
  • 15,000 firework effects lit up the night as part of the Fireworks
  • Thousands of people enjoyed beautiful ice sculptures and ice slides at the WinterPLAYGROUND presented by United Rentals
  • Talent Show winners:
    • Youth – Taylor Fudge and Jenna Heighton
    • Adult – Jamie Malbeuf
  • Shootout on the Snye winners:
    • Initiation – Zambronies
    • Novice – Snye Snipers
    • Atom – Dubliners
    • Open – Blades of Steel.

Residents can have their say about WinterPLAY by taking a short survey at participate.rmwb.ca/winterplay2020. Feedback from this survey will help make next year’s event even better. Residents who did not attend the festival are also encouraged to provide their feedback.
