Yard waste curbside collection set to begin May 12, 2020

(Fort McMurray, AB – May 7, 2020) – Yard waste curbside collection will begin in the Urban Service Area, Draper, Saprae Creek Estates, Gregoire Lake Estates and Anzac on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, flowers, weeds, plants and small twigs and sticks.

This year, in response to COVID-19, the Municipality is directing residents to use the dark blue collection bin to dispose of yard waste. This will prevent the need for collection crews to physically handle bags of yard waste.

Please place un-bagged yard waste material inside the dark blue bin and place it to the curb by 7:30 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Crews will continue to collect two bins of bagged garbage per week. Residents are asked to use the black and light blue collection bins for garbage. Residents are reminded that in response to COVID-19, recycling has been suspended until further notice. Please combine both garbage and recycling materials together in bags, and place bags inside of bins for collection. All bins should be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Please do not put kitchen food scraps, pet waste or non-organic garden waste such as broken plant pots in the bag. Commercial yard waste will not be accepted.

The public drop off area at the landfill is able to receive yard waste at no charge year-round, seven days a week from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Yard waste curbside collection will run until the autumn when snow begins to fall.
