The Government of Alberta has declared a state of public health emergency. Province-wide restrictions are in effect.

Face coverings required
Under the latest Public Health Order from the Government of Alberta, face coverings are mandatory within all indoor public places and workplaces in Alberta. This provincial order supersedes the existing municipal Face Covering Bylaw.
COVID-19 Response
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) continues to follow the direction of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Provincial Restrictions
On December 8, 2020 the Government of Alberta announced enhanced province-wide restrictions to help prevent the continued spread of COVID-19 and protect the health care system.
On January 18, some of the restrictions were lifted. Some province-wide restrictions remain in place including:
- Ban on all indoor gatherings
- Some business closures and retail restrictions
- Province-wide mandatory indoor public masking requirement
- Mandatory work from home measures

Municipal Closures and Service Interruptions
Some municipal spaces and services have been impacted by COVID-19 and Government of Alberta restrictions.
Parks, trails and green spaces |
At this time, parks and trails remain open. Please follow all public health guidelines including physical distancing and proper hand hygiene. Do not use parks and recreation spaces if you are sick. Benches, tables, playgrounds and park amenities are not sanitized. Use at your own risk. |
Outdoor skating rinks |
Outdoor skating rinks are open. Find more information on outdoor rinks at rmwb.ca/parks. |
Tobogganing hills |
Tobogganing hills remain open. Please follow all public health guidelines including physical distancing and proper hand hygiene. Do not use park and recreation spaces if you are sick. |
Municipal facilities |
At this time, Municipal facilities and buildings are closed to the public. Services can be accessed online on our website. Bill and/or fine payments can be paid at pay.rmwb.ca or contact Pulse. You can apply for permits at rmwb.ca/epermitting. |

Information for Business
Government of Alberta restrictions |
On Dec. 13, 2020 new Government restrictions come into effect limiting retail and restaurant operations and closing some business sectors. Full details of these restrictions are available online at alberta.ca/covid19. |
Financial support |
Funding is available for small and medium-sized businesses, co-ops and non-profits impacted by COVID-19 to offset a portion of their costs. Learn more about the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant. |
Face Covering Bylaw
Under the latest Public Health Order from the Government of Alberta, face coverings are mandatory within all indoor public places and workplaces in Alberta. This provincial order supersedes our existing Municipal Face Covering Bylaw however, the bylaw remains in effect.
Enforcement
Those who violate a public health order could be subject to a $1,000 fine.
If you are concerned someone is not following public health orders, you can:
- remind them that not following orders is against the law and puts people at risk
- submit a complaint to one of the following:
