COVID-19 Response
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) continues to follow the direction of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Up-to-date information on the number of active and recovered COVID-19 cases in Fort McMurray and the Wood Buffalo region is available on the Government of Alberta's Geospatial Map.

Based on information provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Health during weekly live briefings, the RMWB prepares regular Community Updates that include information on local case numbers, outbreaks and measures. Updates are posted here after most live, weekday briefings.
Provincial Restrictions
The Government of Alberta continues to provide direction on the response to COVID-19 in the province.
At this time, province-wide restrictions remain in place by the Government of Alberta to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health care system. The Government of Alberta is taking a phased approach to easing restrictions through the Path Forward Plan.
Currently, Alberta is in Step 1 of the Path Forward Plan.

Municipal Closures and Service Interruptions
Some municipal spaces and services have been impacted by COVID-19 and Government of Alberta restrictions.
Parks, trails and green spaces |
At this time, parks and trails remain open. Please follow all public health guidelines including physical distancing and proper hand hygiene. Do not use parks and recreation spaces if you are sick.
Benches, tables, playgrounds and park amenities are not sanitized. Use at your own risk. |
Municipal facilities |
At this time, Municipal facilities and buildings are closed to the public. Services can be accessed online on our website.
Bill and/or fine payments can be paid at pay.rmwb.ca or contact Pulse. You can apply for permits at rmwb.ca/epermitting. |

Financial support |

Face Covering Bylaw - required signage |
When the Municipal Face Covering Bylaw is active, businesses are required to display signage in entrances of their business or vehicle for hire. Signage for the Face Covering Bylaw is available in eight different languages. Please select one or more of the following signs to download, print and display at the entrance of your business or public vehicle. |
Face Covering Requirement
Under the latest Public Health Order from the Government of Alberta, face coverings are mandatory within all indoor public places and workplaces in Alberta. Learn more here.
How to properly discard your mask
Help keep our community clean by properly discarding your disposable mask in a lined garbage bin at home or in one of the many garbage receptacles in the region.
- Discard your disposable masks in a garbage bin after use.
- Please do not place them in the recycling bin.
- Remember to wash your hands after before and after you remove your mask.

Enforcement
Those who violate a public health order could be subject to a $1,000 fine.
If you are concerned someone is not following public health orders, you can:
- remind them that not following orders is against the law and puts people at risk
