FireSmart Home Action Rebate Program

Created through a $100,000 grant from Intact Public Entities and Intact Financial Corporation, the FireSmart Home Action Rebate Program will help homeowners in the Region use fire-resistant materials in home upgrades. The program will provide a grant to eligible homeowners.

Interested homeowners must first book a FireSmart home assessment. Additional details on how to apply for a rebate will be provided during the assessment.

The process:

  1. Apply for a free FireSmart Home Assessment HERE
  2. The FireSmart team will contact you to schedule an assessment
  3. *Review the assessment report and pick one of the eligible FireSmart upgrades for your home (roofing, siding, or decking)
  4. When the project is complete, contact firesmart@rmwb.ca to schedule a follow-up inspection
  5. **The FireSmart team will review the work and project receipts, and will provide a rebate if grant funds are still available

*Home upgrades started before a FireSmart Home Assessment will not be eligible for a rebate.

**Rebates will not be held for anyone – funds will be distributed based on project completion date.

Homeowners who have already had a FireSmart home assessment completed in 2022 may contact the FireSmart team to confirm their eligibility and get further instructions on how to receive a rebate.

Please note: Only one rebate will be issued per applicant; limited to single family homes

Eligible home upgrades:

  • Roof replacement – up to $2,000 (e.g., repairing old/damaged asphalt shingles)
  • Roof upgrade – up to $2,000 (e.g., replacing wood shake shingles with asphalt shingles)
  • Deck upgrade – up to $2,000 (e.g., replacing wood decking with a fire-resistant material)
  • Siding upgrade – up to $5,000 (e.g., replacing vinyl siding with stucco)
  • New home construction – eligible for a siding or decking upgrade rebate

Rebates will be provided on a first come, first serve basis after confirmation of the completed work by FireSmart team members. Residents will be eligible to receive rebates until June 2023, or until funds have been exhausted.
