The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will honour National Indigenous History Month (NIHM) this June in partnership with local Indigenous governments, organizations, and individuals.
The month provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich history and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people across Canada. Throughout the month, the Municipality will feature stories, photos, and videos shared by Indigenous community members that raise awareness and understanding about Indigenous history, cultures, and traditions.
Each week, new content will be shared in collaboration with Indigenous communities that will follow the general themes: Mother Earth Mondays, Wisdom Wednesdays, and Fact Fridays. People may also join online discussions and take part in a weekly contest for a chance to win a hand-made birchbark basket filled with special items purchased from local Indigenous artisans and companies. Find out more, share ideas, and tell us how you are honoring National Indigenous History Month.
