Sandy Bowman has been a resident and small business owner in the Wood Buffalo region since 1993.
Sandy was inducted into the Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and served as the Sport Chair for both the 2015 Western Canada Games and the 2018 Alberta Winter Games. He was instrumental in developing the municipal bylaw and commission to regulate combative sports in the RMWB. He also served as the Chair on the RMWB Combative Sports Commission from 2013-2019, and until elected as Mayor as the Commission Deputy Chair. Sandy served on the Regional Recreation Corporation Board of Directors from January 2020 – January 2021.
During his residency in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Sandy has served as a committed community volunteer and advocate. Having successfully navigated both his family and his business through floods, the 2016 wildfire, the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic changes experienced in the region, Sandy is familiar with the many challenges the RMWB continues to face.
Sandy brings his strong business background, dedication to community, and fundamental belief in the opportunity and potential of the RMWB to his role as Mayor. He is committed to serving the region from a foundation of common sense based on improving the quality of life for all those who have chosen to call this region home.
