The Wood Buffalo Regional Indoor Recreation and Community Facilities Master Plan is a guidance document. It helps municipal Council and staff plan, budget and develop recreation and community facilities in the region.
Council approved the plan in 2015. The plan includes short, medium- and long-term priorities. Our region has uncertain population growth, so the plan is designed to be flexible and guide decision-making until 2025.
Goals
The plan lists eight goals, and each goal supports a series of objectives. The goals are listed below.
- Develop infrastructure to enhance quality of life for residents, resident retention and financial sustainability.
- Promote health, wellness and active living.
- Maximize access to recreational and community-oriented opportunities, programs and services.
- Enhance operational accountability.
- Improve value for money.
- An improved, coordinated and integrated recreation and community service delivery system.
- Strengthen the region's sport tourism mandate.
- Solidify the Urban Service Area's role as a regional hub for recreation.
