As we’re enjoying a mild fall, now is the perfect time to plan ahead for winter maintenance parking restrictions. All Winter Maintenance Subzones (WMZ) are relaxed until further notice as the program officially begins Tuesday, Oct. 15. On-street parking restrictions are not in effect when subzones are relaxed but you can still sign up for alerts that will go straight to your inbox!
Subzones will typically be activated on a bi-weekly basis, meaning residents need to move their vehicles off their street once every two weeks. Windrows (snowbanks) created by a plow that are higher than 15 cm will be removed from the end of driveways in active subzones.
Keep up to date on the status of WMZs
- Sign up for WMZ Alerts.
- Watch for updates on the orange electronic signage at the entrance of each neighbourhood
- Follow the RMWB on Facebook and Twitter @RMWoodBuffalo
- Check rmwb.ca
- Contact Pulse at 780-743-7000 or rmwb.ca/pulse
Remove all belongings from the curb
Prevent winter maintenance delays and damage to personal items by removing them from the curb, especially curb mats and basketball nets.
Reminder for temporary no-parking signs
If you live on a busier street not included in the WMZ program, temporary no-parking signs will be placed ahead of snow removal. If a temporary no-parking sign is placed on the road:
- vehicles must be moved within 24 hours and not park on the street until signs have been removed
- crews will have 72 hours to complete winter maintenance
Any vehicles not moved will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Winter Maintenance Zone reminders
- Every residential street maintained by the RMWB in Fort McMurray has been assigned a subzone and one designated weekday for maintenance. You can find this information on posted street signage or by using the Find Your Zone tool.
- For the weeks when your subzone is active, on-street parking restrictions are in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. only on your one designated day for maintenance.
- For everyone’s safety, please do not approach equipment on the roadway and give space to crews where maintenance is happening.
