Boil water advisories lifted in Fort McKay
Flush all indoor taps for five minutes in impacted residences
(Fort McMurray, AB – January 2, 2022) – Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) have lifted their boil water advisories for Fort McKay, confirming the water is safe to drink.
Run water from all indoor taps in impacted residences
Community members should run all indoor taps for five minutes. Water may be discoloured at first but should clear up after flushing.
If tap water remains discoloured, continue flushing for up to fifteen minutes or until the water clears up. If water is still discoloured after flushing for fifteen minutes, please call Pulse to report the issue
Regular use of tap water may resume
Boil water advisories were issued on Dec. 26 as a precautionary measure after an emergency leak. Flushing of the water distribution system is complete and testing results confirm a safe and high standard of water quality.
Once all taps are flushed, community members may resume regular use of tap water, including drinking.
Municipality thanks workers and community for support restoring water
Beginning Dec. 26, crews on-site and engineering teams worked continuously to successfully repair an emergency leak, flush over 800 m3 of water through approximately 4,850 metres of pipe and implement an extensive testing plan to confirm water in Fort McKay is safe to consume.
The Municipality would like to thank everyone who worked through the holidays to help restore drinking water and the community for their support accommodating the emergency repairs.
