
Event support and canteen vendors needed for WinterPLAY, Feb. 21 to 25
(Fort McMurray, AB – Jan. 20, 2025) – To make WinterPLAY an event to remember, organizers are seeking support from local community organizations and groups with paid fundraising opportunities during the five-day winter festival at the Snye.
Fundraising opportunities available for community groups
Groups fundraising for a local social profit are eligible to apply for general event support opportunities. Groups will receive $500 per four-hour shift.
General event support duties could include:
- Keeping the event site free of garbage and recycling, including inside and outside of tents.
- Monitoring the community bonfire.
- Supervising ice slides and sculptures while ensuring residents adhere to event rules and guidelines.
- Assisting with horse drawn carriage rides, fireworks and other activities as needed.
Two unique opportunities coming to WinterPLAY 2025
This year, organizers are bringing two exciting new additions to WinterPLAY: an on-ice hockey and ringette skills competition and pancake breakfast!
All-ages Hockey and Ringette Skills Competition
An enthusiastic individual, group, organization or business is encouraged to apply to host an exciting skills competition on Feb. 22 and 23!
The selected host will receive $1,000 in compensation.
Up for the challenge? Apply by Feb. 3.
Community Pancake Breakfast
Bring your appetite! Local non-profit organizations and community groups are invited to apply to serve one of two pancake breakfasts on Feb. 22 and 23.
Fundraising will be based on the donations received during the community pancake breakfast.
Set up a snack corner at the WinterCHALET
The WinterCHALET heated tent is available for local commercial or social profit organizations to provide food sales during WinterPLAY.
Organizers are seeking a maximum of three organizations per day to manage the following stations:
- Snacks Station (chips, pop, popcorn, candy and similar items)
- BBQ Station (hotdogs, hamburgers)
- Café Station (coffee, tea, muffins, cookies and other baked goods)
Complete an application to let organizers know your availability and what food items you plan to serve. Suitable vendors will be contacted by Feb. 12.
Referees needed at Shootout on the Snye, Feb. 21 to 23
WinterPLAY’s four-on-four pond hockey tournament officially kicks off on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Help make Shootout on the Snye a success: sign up as a referee!
Referees will be compensated $25 per 35-minute game.
Access to Snye restricted Jan. 24
As organizers begin to prepare for WinterPLAY 2025, access to the Snye will be restricted from Jan. 24 to Feb. 28.
For those looking to access the Clearwater River, please use the Tom Weber and Raphael Cree boat launches.

Mark your calendars – WinterPLAY returns to the Snye from February 21 to 25 with lots of free winter activities for you to enjoy.
