
WinterPLAY returns with free family activities, including ice slides, fireworks and horse-drawn wagon rides
Celebrate our northern spirit at WinterPLAY from Feb. 21 to 25 at the Snye and Borealis Park! There will be lots of unique things to see and do from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Free activities for family and friends to enjoy
Daily activities at WinterPLAY include:
- Leisure skating on the Snye and Borealis Pond
- Indigenous Cultural Programming in the Trapper’s Tents
- Horse-drawn wagon rides
- Ice sculptures

Need a break from the cold?
Visit the WinterCHALET and warm up with some tasty treats from our food vendors.
Grab a hotdog or hamburger on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22 from the Salvation Army. Finish your meal with something sweet from Rocky Mountain Chocolate or a snack from Fusion K Foodies, who will be serving WinterPLAY visitors throughout the event.
Try something new at WinterPLAY
In partnership with Wood Buffalo Sport Connection, visitors will have the chance to try speed skating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during WinterPLAY!
Take a break from the ice and head up to Doug Barnes Cabin for WinterPLAY Glide and Stride Try It Day on Feb. 23. Starting at 10:30 a.m., try cross-country skiing and snowshoeing before ending the day with an exciting duathlon race! Register with the Wood Buffalo Sport Connection.
Test your speed on the ice with Try It Speed Skating at Borealis Pond on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
Plan ahead for skating on the Snye
Rink and Fire Pit Bookings will be available Friday, Feb. 21, Monday, Feb. 24 and Tuesday, Feb. 25, and must be booked beforehand.

Looking to skate on the weekend? We’ve got you covered! Leisure skating at Borealis Pond and the feature rink at the Snye is open throughout WinterPLAY.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, you could have the chance to skate under the fireworks on your own rink. With your own firepit, you’ll be sure to make memories at an evening you won’t forget!

Snye closures and construction
As event construction for WinterPLAY continues, please be advised of the following:
- Access to the lower parking lot at Snye Park and Snye Point will be restricted until Feb. 28.
- On Feb. 23, Snye Point will be completely closed to all due to the fireworks.
- Residents may still access the Clearwater River via the Raphael Cree Boat Launch and Tom Weber Boat Launch off Saline Creek Drive in Waterways.
Please continue to use caution, follow all posted signage and stay clear of barricaded areas, construction crews and equipment. Construction areas are clearly marked and monitored to ensure public safety.
