
Gather for the tree and tipi lighting ceremony at Kiyām Park, followed by the Santa Claus Parade!
Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at Council’s Starry Night holiday party and the Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 2. The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. at Kiyām Community Park with free activities and entertainment for all ages, followed by the parade on Franklin Ave. at 6 p.m.
“Everyone is invited to gather with us and share in the region’s northern, festive and holiday spirit,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “We look forward to connecting with friends old and new as we celebrate the season together while reflecting on the blessings and opportunities we have as a community.”
Council’s Starry Night holiday party at Kiyām Park
Starry Night, tthen dach'lyi lą̨̨t'e (Dene), ahcâkosak mîyo nakosôwak (Cree), will mark the first time an in-person tree and tipi lighting is being held at Kiyām Community Park! Get into the holiday spirit before the parade with the holiday train available from 1 – 5 p.m. Council’s Starry Night holiday party will begin at 5 p.m. and includes carolers and drummers, free hot chocolate and snacks, story time with an Elder, magical decorations and a tree and tipi lighting ceremony.
Santa Claus Parade begins at Franklin Ave. and Main St. at 6 p.m.
Following Council’s holiday party, head over to Franklin Ave. as Santa makes his way to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo! The parade route is changing this year, starting at Franklin Ave. and Main St. and travelling south towards Riedel St. (see map below).
Register a float and help spread holiday cheer
Local businesses, social profits and community organizations are invited to be a part of the festivities by registering a float for the Santa Claus Parade. Registration is free and offers an opportunity to connect with thousands of community members viewing the parade.
