On January 6, the Community Investment Program Approval Committee (CIPAC) approved grants totaling more than $12 million for local non-profit organizations, individuals and athletes.
“We are leaders across Alberta in supporting community organizations and partnerships, and it’s important we continue to enable their important contributions to everyone across the region,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “Our social profit sector does incredible work, and we’re pleased to play our part in their ongoing efforts to build better communities. Thank you to the members of the Community Investment Program Approval Committee and municipal staff for their role in allocating this needed funding.”
CIP program changes
In July 2023, Council delegated grant approval authority to CIPAC for the Community Capital, Community Impact Grant, Community Sustaining and Games Legacy grants.
The CIP grant funding was included in the Community Services operating budget as part of the December 2023 budget deliberations. The overall 2024 contribution to community organizations and partners including CIP, Community Capital and Municipal Facility Operator’s grants, totals more than $48 million.
Following budget approval, Administration reviewed and scored all CIP applications and presented grant recommendations to the CIPAC. CIPAC met on January 6 to review administration’s recommendations and based on the outcomes of this meeting, applicants received decision letters informing them of the status of their application.
Below is an overview of the grant funding for 2024:
Community Capital: $4.4 million
Community Impact: $2.2 million
Community Sustaining: $5.4 million
Games Legacy: $15,000
