Face coverings continue to be mandatory under province-wide requirement
On Tuesday, Council voted to repeal the Municipal Face Covering Bylaw (No. 20/024). However, face coverings continue to be mandatory through the province-wide requirement in place under the current Public Health Orders (31-2021 and 33-2021). This means face coverings are still required in:
- All indoor public places
- Public transit
- All places of worship
- All indoor workplaces
- K-12 schools when required
- Instances when you might come within 2 metres of people from outside your household

Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan
The Government of Alberta is expected to ease COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines when the province enters Stage 3 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan on July 1. This includes the general indoor provincial mask mandate. However, masking will still be required in specific settings, as determined by the Government of Alberta. This includes acute and continuing care settings, as well as on public transit and in taxis or rideshare cars.
Under the Open for Summer Plan, the Government of Alberta has been easing restrictions in a phased approach that focuses on increased vaccination targets and decreased hospitalization rates.

Visiting other communities
While the Municipal Face Covering Bylaw in no longer in effect, and the province wide mask mandate is set to ease on July 1, there may be some municipalities in Alberta and Canada that have additional masking bylaws in place after July 1. Should you travel to another community, please plan ahead and review each area’s COVID-19 mandates.
Follow all public health measures
While restrictions continue to ease across the province, it’s important to be aware of the current requirements and guidelines to ensure all public health measures are being followed. Please continue to do your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by washing and sanitizing hands often, practicing physical distancing, wearing a face covering, staying home when sick and getting vaccinated.
