Recruitment for new local board of directors to begin in coming weeks
In a strategic move to enhance economic growth, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Council is recruiting for a new Board of Directors of the Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (WBEDC), with a requirement that all members need to be permanent residents of the region. The new board will have an updated mandate and find ways to streamline operations, improve service delivery and reduce costs.
Council will act as board in interim; recruit for new board members
At Wednesday’s meeting, Council authorized the Mayor to exercise the Municipality’s membership rights in the WBEDC, temporarily appointing all members of Council as Directors of the Board of Directors.
A public recruitment campaign for a new Board of Directors will be launched in the coming weeks. The new Board, including two voting Council members, will be in place before the end of the year and tasked with bringing recommendations back to Council within 90 days of being appointed.
More details on how to apply will be shared on the municipal website and social media.
"We appreciate the community members that participated in the discussion on the future state of economic development and thank them for sharing their ideas and perspectives on how to best move forward,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “In order for local business, industry and tourism to thrive, we need to focus on enabling strong community-led leadership and accountability to the people that live here.”
