Remember to double bag your pet waste and dispose of it properly
With the spring thaw finally here, it’s time to start thinking about cleaning up your yard’s now unhidden pet waste!
Safely dispose of your pet’s waste – for free – at two convenient locations on certain weekends in April.
Drop off locations and hours
Centerfire Place in Thickwood
- April 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- April 27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
J. Howard Pew Memorial Park in Waterways
- April 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- April 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Accepted items for drop-off include fecal matter, kitty litter, training pads, soiled wood chips and newspapers – all free of charge! Make sure to double bag all pet waste to prevent harmful bacteria from spreading.
Other ways to dispose of pet waste
Pet waste should not be placed in blue bins. When pet waste is improperly disposed of with recyclables, it contaminates other material and poses health and safety risks to staff who manually sort materials at the Material Recovery Facility. For the same reasons, large amounts of pet waste should not be deposited in municipal bins located on trails, in parks or at Transit stops.
Residents are encouraged to dispose of pet waste responsibly using one of the following methods:
- A Green Cone composter at home, designed specifically for organic waste.
- Bag and transport it to the municipal landfill.
- Double bag pet waste and place it in your black bin with regular household garbage.
