Stay prepared and up to date on wildfire safety this summer
The Municipality has lifted the fire ban for the urban service area of Fort McMurray and the Province has also lifted the fire ban for the surrounding forest area.
Although wildfire conditions have improved, residents are encouraged to be diligent and responsible while enjoying trails, campfires and backyard firepits.
Fort McMurray residents should also ensure they are familiar with the rules for outdoor fires. The Outdoor Fire Bylaw regulates fire pits, outdoor fires and permits, and includes increased fines for violations.
The fire ban remains in place north of Lake Athabasca (including Fort Chipewyan) at this time. (June 16)
Stay informed
Wildfire season is ongoing; stay informed about provincial advisories, restrictions and bans in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) of Alberta. For the most-up-to-date information on bans in the province, visit AlbertaFireBans.ca.
All outdoor users should remain cautious as wildfires can still ignite easily and spread quickly.
As fire danger levels rise or fall, these restrictions can be adjusted to reduce the likelihood of preventable wildfires.
To report a wildfire, call 310-FIRE (3473).
