
Apply to join the Bid Committee before July 14
With unanimous Council support, the RMWB is preparing a formal bid to host the 2028 Alberta Summer Games. Community members, businesses, organizations and local leaders are invited to join the 2028 Bid Committee to help bring this exciting opportunity to the Region.
The Region has a long and recognized history of hosting provincial, national and international sporting events. A successful 2028 bid is expected to generate significant economic benefits and contribute to strengthening the local economy.

If you are associated with local sports, business, education, the arts or community development, this is an opportunity to work alongside other community leaders to help shape a strong and competitive bid that showcases everything the region has to offer. The bid is the first step in the planning process and will set the stage for a memorable and exciting 2028 Alberta Summer Games in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, if successful.
The bid committee is coming together to prepare for the August 29, 2025, bid submission deadline.
Committee member responsibilities include:
- Attend three scheduled meetings:
- July 16, 2025
- July 30, 2025
- August 13, 2025
- Be available by email throughout July and August to finalize the bid
- Contribute local knowledge, sport or event experience and passion for the community
Application deadline: Monday, July 14 at 12 p.m.
About the Alberta Games
For nearly 50 years, the Alberta Games have brought young athletes together from across the province to compete and celebrate sport. Youth between the ages of 11 and 16 qualify through zone playoffs to take part in a variety of individual and team events.
The Games leave a lasting impact on the host communities through improved facilities, tourism and volunteer development while inspiring teamwork, confidence and healthy lifestyles in young people.
