Residents are invited to search for sign prototypes in downtown Fort McMurray
Regional wayfinding is headed in the right direction in completing a strategy and downtown and waterfront plan. Public engagement continues after important navigational priorities were gathered earlier this summer including sign materials, terminology, colors, and important destinations. Now it’s time to share the results and get feedback on the prototypes.
Public input was considered and included in a set of prototypes to create community focused signs that reflect the culture, diversity, and people of Wood Buffalo, including Indigenous languages, (Cree and Dene).
The wayfinding prototypes include several sign types: street banners, entrance, pedestrian, vehicular, park identification, historical and trail signage. Numerous prototypes have been installed throughout downtown providing a visual representation of the signs.
Residents have several opportunities to provide feedback at rmwb.ca/wayfinding, including:
- Online survey;
- Online quick poll;
- Community gathers; and
- Fort McMurray Fall Trade Show; September 23-25.
Deadline to participate is Sunday, October 9, 2022.
The wayfinding strategy will support guiding principles that will help build future wayfinding for the entire region, and a detailed plan for sign placement and design for the downtown and waterfront. Following public engagement for the prototypes, the strategy and plan will be finalized and made available to the public in the coming months.
